Friends of Friends Travel Connect is a membership-based international network designed to help women travel independently with access to trusted local knowledge, introductions and human connection.

FFTC is not designed as a conventional tour company, travel agency or accommodation-booking platform. It creates pathways between Traveller Members, Local Friend Connectors and selected local partners.

The aim is to help women experience places through people as well as destinations.

FFTC is for women who want to travel independently but would value trusted local reassurance, knowledge or connection.

Members may be travelling after retirement, after their children have grown, following a relationship or career change, during another life transition, while reconnecting with family roots, or simply because they want a richer experience of a place.

The common thread is a desire for independent travel with greater meaning, confidence and human connection.

FFTC is beginning with women because many women want the freedom of independent travel while also valuing reassurance, local insight and meaningful connection.

For many, the question is not simply, “Can I travel there?” It is also, “How will I feel when I arrive?”

Beginning with a clearly defined community allows FFTC to develop its trust model, services and culture with greater focus and care.

Tours generally provide organised itineraries. Accommodation platforms primarily facilitate places to stay. Social media groups can offer valuable advice, but they are often large, informal and difficult to verify.

FFTC focuses on intentional introductions between independent travellers and trusted local people.

A connection might involve reassurance, local knowledge, a conversation, an introduction, a shared interest or a more involved local experience which may inv. The traveller remains independent and chooses the level of engagement that suits her.

Verification is an important starting point, but trust involves more than checking identity.

FFTC builds trust through a combination of:

• personal referrals and trusted pathways

• detailed member and connector profiles

• conversations, including video meetings where appropriate

• proportionate identity and eligibility checks

• shared interests and clearly stated preferences

• agreed boundaries and expectations

• mutual choice before any connection proceeds

• feedback, accountability and ongoing review

• carefully selected partnerships

No process can remove every uncertainty involved in travel or meeting new people. FFTC aims to reduce anonymity and create a more thoughtful, informed and accountable basis for connection.

FFTC is not an anonymous, open-access network.

Possible connections are considered through personal referrals, trusted networks, member profiles, shared interests, conversations and agreed expectations. Travellers and Local Friend Connectors can meet online first, ask questions and decide whether they are comfortable proceeding.

Every introduction is optional. Either person may decline without pressure or explanation.

Local Friend Connectors are trusted local people who may offer a welcome, local knowledge, introductions or shared experiences.

They may include retired professionals, teachers, artists, community members, migrants, expatriates, experienced travellers, gardeners, makers, musicians, walkers, cooks or people with deep knowledge of their local area.

They are not automatically tour guides, travel agents or personal assistants. What matters most is trustworthiness, warmth, reliability, sound boundaries and a genuine interest in connecting with others.

Local Friend Connectors will generally be women. Some agreed connections may also involve couples, families, community groups or selected partners.

A Local Friend Connector might offer:

• a welcome message before arrival

• practical local advice

• a coffee or short walk

• help understanding transport or local customs

• an introduction to a market, gallery, garden, event or community activity

• a connection based on a shared interest

• more involved engagement during a longer stay

Some connections will be brief and practical. Others may develop into richer shared experiences.

Not every connector offers the same things, and no connector is expected to accept every request.

No. FFTC is a growing network, and a suitable Local Friend Connector or partner may not be available in every destination or for every journey.

FFTC will consider factors such as location, shared interests, availability, accessibility, travel style, preferred level of engagement and mutual comfort.

The aim is not to make the greatest number of introductions. It is to make thoughtful introductions where there appears to be a genuine basis for connection.

FFTC is a membership-based network.

Traveller Membership provides access to the network, member resources, community updates and the opportunity to request trusted introductions.

Some light-touch connections may be included with membership or offered for a modest additional fee. More involved introductions, shared-interest experiences, extended local support or accommodation may be priced separately.

Accommodation is not the central purpose of FFTC, and it is never assumed.

Some Local Friend Connectors or partners may choose to offer accommodation. Where this occurs, it must be specifically discussed, mutually agreed and clearly documented, including the scope, fees, household expectations and relevant boundaries.

Travellers remain free to arrange their own accommodation independently.

FFTC provides a framework for membership, introductions and agreed connections. It does not remove the ordinary responsibilities involved in independent travel.

Traveller Members remain responsible for their travel bookings, passports, visas, insurance, health needs, personal decisions and compliance with local laws.

Local Friend Connectors are responsible for acting within the scope they have agreed to and for communicating clearly if their circumstances change.

FFTC is responsible for administering its processes, communicating the agreed arrangement, responding to concerns and applying its terms, safeguarding practices and complaints procedures.

The responsibilities applying to each type of engagement will be explained before it is confirmed.

FFTC uses technology, including carefully applied AI, to support relevant connections without making the process impersonal.

Technology may help identify shared interests, destinations, travel styles, accessibility needs, availability and preferred levels of engagement. It may suggest possible connections, but it does not replace human review, consent or judgement.

The goal is not to automate friendship. It is to help meaningful human connections develop more naturally and thoughtfully.

FFTC will collect only the information reasonably needed to administer membership and support appropriate introductions.

Relevant information may include interests, destinations, availability, accessibility needs, travel preferences and agreed levels of engagement. Information will only be shared where needed and with appropriate consent.

Traveller Members and Local Friend Connectors are also expected to respect one another’s privacy. Personal stories, addresses, contact details, travel plans and family information must not be shared outside the connection without permission.

Either the Traveller Member or the Local Friend Connector may decide not to proceed.

A person may also pause or end an agreed connection if circumstances change or they feel uncomfortable. FFTC encourages early, respectful communication and will provide a way to raise concerns or seek assistance.

Where appropriate, FFTC may review the arrangement, help clarify expectations, consider an alternative connection or take further action under its policies.
